Van Buren

While Augusta and Port Mitchell have been the only towns of any note in York Township, yet about the time the County Seat was changed to Augusta from Sparta, a Village called Van Buren was surveyed and platted in Section 20, and designed to secure, if possible, the coveted boon.   But alas! the hopes of the founder were destined to be blasted, as his claim was disregarded by the locating committee.  No lots were sold, and the embryonic village expired soon after being christened.
